Hello all birders,

The Temminck's Stint continues at the Ocean Shores Treatment Plant(south of the city of Ocean Shores in coastal Grays Harbor Co. in Washington State). Birders gathered again today from across Washington,Oregon, and British Columbia and were allowed exceptional views of this very cooperative that remained excessively active feeding along the rocky shoreline of the southwest pond. The bird was observed all day between before 8am until we left the location at 4pm and it never left the shoreline of the pond with many observers obtaining additional photographs! The weather was superb today unlike past days with calm, sunny conditions and it was great pleasure seeing all the birders there! The Ruff also made a very nice appearance after 12:15pm,when it flew in from the nearby Oyhut Wildlife Area and settled along the shoreline of the southwest pond amongst a large Long-billed Dowitcher flock. It was a treat for many that enjoyed seeing both the Temminck's Stint and the Ruff in the same pond, but the Ruff eventually flew off with the main Long-billed Dowitcher flock.

****A note to all birders coming to look for the Temminck's Stint and the Ruff****

Please do not block the paved roadways around the main office area surrounding the southwest pond and keep in mind that the sewage treatment plant workers have the right-of-way by driving their vehicles around the facility. This mainly refers to standing along the middle of the roadway preventing the workers from driving around and doing their work and is common courtesy.

While watching the Temminck's Stint and the Ruff today a few good species were spotted directly from the Ocean Shores STP including the following:

1 Short-tailed Shearwater(observed flying in small swells at the mouth of Grays Harbor)
4 Trumpeter Swans(observed flying south over the Oyhut Wildlife Area)
13 Black Scoters(inner bay of the Oyhut WA)
1 immature Cooper's Hawk
1 adult Peregrine Falcon
4+ Northern Harriers
12 Black-bellied Plovers(observed as fly-overs)
1 Ruddy Turnstone(with 17 Black Turnstones)
5 Least Sandpipers
22 Dunlin
68 Long-billed Dowitchers
17 Marbled Murrelets(observed flying to and from Grays Harbor)
1 Short-eared Owl(observed flying eastward fairly high overhead of the Oyhut WA being mobbed by 6 Am.Crows)
4 Western Meadowlarks

Nearby, a productive visit made by several observers at the Ocean Shores Jetty between 9:45am-10:45am produced the following highlights:

7 Red-throated Loons
1 Red-necked Grebe
5+ Northern Fulmars(observed flying fairly far off along the horizon with one individual slightly closer to shore)
1 Long-tailed Duck(observed amongst a loose scoter flock along the south side near the west tip of the jetty and always a nice highlight for this location)
14 Black Scoters
1 Black-bellied Plover(flying over)
1 Semipalmated Plover(flying over)
22 Black Turnstones
45+ Surfbirds
6 Rock Sandpipers
10+ Marbled Murrelets

On a side excursion to visit a friend near Bill's Spit we observed a single immature male Anna's Hummingbird and a Hutton's Vireos amongst a mixed flock of passerines. 100+ "Black"Brant were observed well offshore of Damon Point in North Bay amongst more common waterbird species.

We will not be able to look for the Temminck's Stint over the next 3 days, but hope other observers may continue the updates as they occur of the bird!

Good birding,
