RARE BIRD ALERT for KING EIDER and BAR-TAILED GODWIT, and for an
out-of-town TEMMINCK'S STINT at Ocean Shores, WA.


Sightings for Monday, November 14

The TEMMINCK'S STINT, first found on November 9, was seen by
many observers for the 6th consecutive day at the Ocean Shores
sewage plant in Ocean Shores, WA. For the latest information on this
bird, please check the TWEETERS E-mail group, or phone the
Washington State BirdBox at (206) 281-9172.


Sightings for Sunday, November 13

At Blackie Spit in Surrey, the BAR-TAILED GODWIT was seen with 4
MARBLED GODWITS by several observers. Check the east side of the spit
at high tide for this bird. Also here were a flock of 50 LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, and at least 2 EURASIAN WIGEON.

At Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts, Washington, a ROCK
SANDPIPER was seen again with BLACK TURNSTONES. Offshore,
2 COMMON MURRES and 6 PIGEON GUILLEMOTS were seen

At the mouth of the Serpentine River in Surrey, accessed from Mud Bay Park
just off Colebrook Road, an AMERICAN AVOCET, probably the same
bird seen last winter, was reported.

At the Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta, a HORNED LARK was seen
along the road on the south side of the jetty.

An EARED GREBE was seen in English Bay off Jericho Park in Vancouver.


Sightings for Saturday, November 12

The second-winter male KING EIDER was found for the first
time in 6 days off Siwash Rock in Vancouver's Stanley Park. If you
cannot find the eider there, look among large flocks of SURF SCOTERS
along the shoreline of English Bay in Vancouver or West Vancouver,
where it has been since October 30th.

At Blackie Spit in Surrey, a BAR-TAILED GODWIT was seen with
2 MARBLED GODWITS. Check the east side of the spit at high tide
for this bird. Also there was a SNOW BUNTING on the spit.

At Point Roberts, Washington, a ROCK SANDPIPER was seen again at
Lighthouse Marine Park.

In Port Moody, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER was seen on the shoreline near
Alderside Road.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen in the 11600 block of
95th Avenue in North Delta.


Sightings for Friday, November 11

The BAR-TAILED GODWIT was seen and photographed by several
observers at Blackie Spit in Surrey with up to 4 MARBLED GODWITS.
Also there was a EURASIAN WIGEON.

In Port Moody, a late female WILSON'S WARBLER was seen in the
700 block of Alderside Road. Nearby, a drake LONG-TAILED DUCK
was seen offshore.

An EARED GREBE was seen off Third Beach in Stanley Park, Vancouver.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, a blue-phase SNOW GOOSE
was reported.

In Richmond, an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD appeared in a yard in the
8500 block of Citation Drive.

An AMERICAN DIPPER was seen along the shoreline at West Bay
along Radcliffe Avenue in West Vancouver. Also in West Vancouver,
7 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were on the Grebe Islets off
Lighthouse Park.

At the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver, a
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was reported.

Sightings for Wednesday, November 9

On the south side of the Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta, a HORNED
LARK was seen, as was a WILLET near the jetty base. Also in Delta,
3 adult WESTERN GULLS were seen in a large gull flock on the south
side of Highway 10 between 88th and 96th Streets, and an AMERICAN
KESTREL was seen along 64th Street south of 34B Street.

In North Langley, 3 SANDHILL CRANES were seen near the intersection of
208th Street and 102B Avenue.

In Vancouver's Stanley Park, a tan-morph WHITE-THROATED SPARROW
was seen near the small island on the south side of Lost Lagoon.


Sightings for Tuesday, November 8

A ROCK SANDPIPER was seen with BLACK TURNSTONES at Lighthouse
Marine Park in Point Roberts, Washington.

A HORNED LARK and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW were seen along the
south side of the Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta.


Sightings for Monday, November 7

At Blackie Spit in Surrey, birds observed included a BAR-TAILED
GODWIT along with 3 MARBLED GODWITS, 7 EURASIAN WIGEON,
49 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, as well as a CLAY-COLOURED
SPARROW and 10 CEDAR WAXWINGS.

In Montrose Park, Burnaby, located near the north end of Boundary Road, a
BARRED OWL was seen.


Sightings for Sunday, November 6, 2005

The KING EIDER, present since October 30, is moving frequently
and has been hard to locate. Today, it was seen only briefly, about
3 PM, with a flock of SURF SCOTERS flying past the foot of 25th
Street in West Vancouver. The birds flew eastward, and then
apparently turned toward Stanley Park.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, birds seen included 14 SANDHILL
CRANES, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS and 12 CEDAR
WAXWINGS, a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, 4 VIRGINIA RAILS,
2 late PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and 300 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS.
There were three ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS along Westham Island
Road. A late BARN SWALLOW was seen along River Road west of Ladner

A BAR-TAILED GODWIT and 2 MARBLED GODWITS were seen along
the east side of Blackie Spit in Surrey.

At White Rock, a WILLET was seen on the beach near the base of the
White Rock pier, and 2 adult WESTERN GULLS were seen nearby.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen at the Maplewood
Conservation Area in North Vancouver.

In Vancouver's Stanley Park, several BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS
were seen near Ferguson Point.
