Greetings Tweeters,

During my usual birding walk to the Mukilteo ferry area for my lunch break today, I noted a large raft (actually they were in a very long raft) of birds north of the Silver Cloud (near the long pier close to where the pile driving is happening). I estimate 200, plus or minus. With only my binocs I could make out mostly Goldeneyes, but maybe a few scooters also. Three broke off and flew south (past me) to join three others beside the ferry; these were Barrow's. I'd be interested if anyone else has gotten a better look at the species in this gathering.

This morning, off the boat ramp near the lighthouse, there was a single male Bufflehead - most beautiful, along with 5 Red-brested Mergansers, and a Horned Grebe. I watched the grebe devour a small fish and a long eel-like thing - a sand lance maybe. On land there was one basic plumaged Ring-billed Gull in the crowd.

Cheers!
Judy
