Today several WDFW staff, including me, came upon a Short-eared Owl on the side of a logging road between Scatter Creek Wildlife
Area and the Black River. The area is fairly heavily logged and the owl was in an area where there were extensive recent
clearcuts. I don't recall seeing short-eared owls in habitat of this nature before. This bird wanted to stay on the road. It would
flush and circle but return to land on the road or the shoulder of the road, never going very far.

Have others seen this species in clearcuts?
