Some interesting birds at the Mukilteo ferry dock today....an adult female White-winged Scooter, a Red-necked Grebe, and what I think is a Clark's Grebe or at least an intermediate/hybrid Western-Clark's. In addition to the definitely deep yellow bill (no notice of dullish or greenish cast), this bird was slightly smaller then the Western's I am accustomed to seeing here. There was definitely no dark around the eye, but appeared to be some faint brownish streaking. No matter what the ID, this grebe was a delight to watch; it preened and yawned and stretched it's left leg several times, shaking the foot, seeming to be completely relaxed and enjoying the beautiful sunshine we had today. It was about 50 feet off the pier that goes out from the south end of the Silver Cloud Inn and kept floating closer and closer during the 10 minutes or so I watched (I was on the pier). Then the ferry tooted, the grebes dove, and a few of the two dozen Barrow's Goldeneyes flew and the othe!
r quickly paddled north!

Cheers!
Judy
