I spent day at Ocean Shores on Monday with snow on my mind. I spent about
two hours on the game range in the morning but I wasn't able to locate the
Snowy Owl.
The rest of the day was spent on Damon Point. Early afternoon and right
where Patrick Sullivan described seeing them previously I found the SNOW
BUNTINGS. They were feeding in the sand and weeds along the edge of the
grass and driftwood and were quite tolerant of my presence. I slowly and
quietly moved to within 25' of them and stood there watching and
photographing them for over an hour. This was a new bird for me.
Also spent some time photographing a lone LEAST SANDPIPER. Wanted to be sure
it was. Also had a quick shot at an immature NORTHERN SHRIKE and some
distant ones of CLARK's GREBE and several WESTERN GREBE.
I'm happy, 50% ain't bad.
