I covered my usual Elma to Brady route this morning starting at Vance Creek county park and ending at the Brady Loop. The rain was heavy to begin with, but lightened up towards the end of my drive. Here's some of the more interesting sightings:

Trumpeter Swan - found 23 at Vance Creek county park (on the big pond closest to the airport) and then 25 along the west end of Wenzel Slough Rd. - most likely the same group as I watched them fly out and then in

Pied-billed Grebe - numerous on several ponds

Greater White-fronted Goose - one single individual spotted with the Trumpeters towards the west end of Wenzel Slough Rd. in a corn stubble field

American Kestrel - total of 4 seen on the whole drive

I scanned a couple large blackbird/starling flocks along the Brady Loop area, but didn't find anything unusual hiding out. My last stop of the day was at the wildlife mitigation pond at the Satsop Development Park where many ducks seek shelter from the shotguns this time of year. Ducks seen here include: Mallard, Northern Pintail, American Wigeon, Ring-necked Duck, Northern Shoveler, Bufflehead, and American Coot.

Good birding,
