Greetings Tweeters,
Friday, 11/25, my brother Tim and I spent the morning birding the Ocean
Shores area. The weather was pretty marginal, and as a result we chose not
to walk Damon Point. The best bird of the day was the young GYRFALCON that
has been previously reported on the game range behind the sewage treatment
plant. There is a large, dark, young Peregrine in the same area. We had 3
Peregrine and 2 Merlin in the vicinity. We did not see the Snowy Owl that
was reported there earlier, perhaps it is has moved to another location.
The weather was not conducive to finding passerines and out list reflected
this. Our total was about 60 species for teh morning, we left by noon. A
brief seawatch at the base of the Jetty produced little. The sewage
treatment plant (STP) had a flock of about 20 Black Turnstones, which give
one an idea on what the conditions at the Jetty were like. Other birds of
note included a Barn Swallow at the STP, and a male Harliquin Duck in the
large scoter flock (Surf, Black and White-winged) behind the plant.

During a brief check of the Nisqually Cut-off Road, we were not able to turn
up the Snow Bunting reported the previous day by Patrick and Ruth. We
talked to others that had searched the area as well with similar results.

Good luck and Good Birding
Bill Shelmerdine
