I had an email from a friend with a bird ID query. Here are her words:


" ~ By the way, Yoshi and I saw a new bird at the fence line of our
neighbor's on Thanksgiving day. Can't seem to find it in the book. Looks most like
the Spotted Towhee, but he had a pitch black head and at the back kind of
pointed into that tuft. Also, the underbelly was not white but a deep orange
rust color. I wish I could see it again sometime."

My friend knows a Steller's jay and she knows an American robin so I do not
think she would get either of these confused with whatever she saw. Does
anyone have any other ideas?
