Late morning (9:30-10:00 a.m.) walk revealed that the Flying Squirrel
decided it liked the nesting box well enough to bring in grass, moss,
leaves, to make it more cozy. So instead of fur showing in the hole, one
sees only vegetation now.

Three Snipes on the logjam raft, along with most of the waterfowl being over
by/in the west viewpoint cove. Lots of Coots, 10-15 Pied-biled Grebes, a
few Shovelers, Woods, and Buffleheads. Also a number of Green-winged Teal,
and some Gadwalls. A few Mallards. None of the ducks in the numbers they
were last week. The GB Heron was wading about 6 feet from the platform like
a couple of days ago. Also 2 other Heron flew by. Chickadees, a couple of
Kinglets, and an unidentified, silhouetted hawk that alit in a treetop (I'm
thinking Redtail).

The hawk arrived later and was not the cause, however (and we never did see
what was the cause) of the behavior of the large mixed Coot/Grebe/a few
ducks flock that flap/water-walked several times from north to south and
back again at the mouth of the cove, like something was spooking them.

A quiet, unexceptional, but pleasurable outing.
