At least 5 of the 25+ house finches visiting my feeders have the eye disease. I've removed my sunflower seed feeders and will keep them down for at least a month. However, I noticed the finches have now moved to my thistle feeders. Because of the flat design of the portals, the bird's eyes don't seem to come into direct contact with the feeders. Can I leave these feeders up? Would cleaning the portal areas with rubbing alcohol be advisable if they remain up. Do bird baths also carry the possibility of transmission of this disease?
