Today I spent another long day on the water, collecting water samples and
data from Shilshole to Alki to the east side of Vashon and down around Maury
Island, nearly to Browns Point. Again it was pretty slow for birding, with
highlights being a flock of about 75 Brant that moved between the south
shore of Alki and outer Elliott Bay. I had two alcids, a likely marbled
murrelet and a pigeon guillemot off Vashon. Shilshole Bay again had western,
horned, and red necked grebes, and Barrow's goldeneyes. A slow day, but with
decent weather. No orcas, only one harbor seal. Two unidentified loons made
a quick fly by, south of Alki. A few dozen surf scoters off Magnolia. A
great sunset!
