I'm conducting an ongoing study on breeding white-crowned sparrows on the UW campus. Over the past 3 years I've banded about 150 individuals. I'm very interested in knowing if any of these guys stick around over the winter. It seems at least a couple have over the past 2 winters, but now with many more individuals banded, I should be able to get a better idea of what proportion of the population stays. If any of you happen to be out birding in the UW area or around the Montlake fill and notice a white-crown, I'd really appreciate it if you could check to see if the bird is banded, and, if it is, note the color combo. All of the birds have a metal band and 3 color bands. Most of them have metal on the lower left, with hot pink or orange above for adults, and a variety of colors above for first year birds from this past breeding season.
