Friday after work, in the dwindling light, I visited the Tracyton Boat Lauch
and was able to scope the area for about 30 min. Hadn't been there in a
couple weeks and was delighted to see that SURF SCOTERS and WHITE-WINGED
SCOTERS had arrived, as had WESTERN GREBES. All the COMMON LOONS were well
on their way to basic plumage. RED-NECKED GREBES and PIGEON GUILLEMOTS were
present. Naturally most of the birds were way across the inlet from the
boat launch, so for all I know more species had arrived. That's got to be
one of those immutable laws of birding--the lower the light, the higher the
number of birds just out of scope range. Oh well.
