I was on the Edmonds waterfront late this afternoon. Of interest
from the Senior Center parking lot was a Pacific Loon near the public
pier and 40-50 Heermann's Gulls in a flock flying south. The Double-
crested Cormorants are back in force on the pilings so I wonder how
many Purple Martin nest gourds we will lose this winter. The
cormorants like to perch on the end of the rebar, right over each
gourd. The male and female Belted Kingfisher that seem to make their
home at the Edmonds Marina were out and about. There were also
Crows, Glaucous-winged Gulls, one Mew Gull, and two Pigeon Guillemots.

From the jetty at Brackett's Landing North I observed about 20 more
Heermann's Gulls, good numbers of Double-crested Cormorants and one
Brandt's Cormorant. There were four male and four female Surf
Scoters, two Horned Grebes, two Red-necked Grebes, six Western
Grebes, one Common Murre, one Great Blue Heron (and four more at
Edmonds Marsh), and more Crows, Western Gulls, and Glaucous-winged
Gulls. There were lots of gulls on the Shell Creek spit but it was
too far from Brackett's Landing to distinguish species.
