Subject: [Tweeters] UW Birding, First Week Oct.

Hi Tweeters,

Last Friday 9-30 after I had posted I walked around a
bit by the water before leaving and watched the
Western Grebe with the yellowish bill cast a pellet.
This is not common according the Birds of North
America online but if they are feeding on something
with an exoskeleton they will cast pellets. I don't
know if there is any connection or not but this week I
saw my first crayfish in my area, a good sized one
cruising along on the bottom. This week the Western
Grebe numbers were up to four on Portage Bay. A
Horned Grebe came through again, but no Pied-billed
for me this week. The Robins are back in hungry
hordes, probably some are migrants. First Steller's
Jay passing through, perched on a tree squacked and
flew off.

Yesterday morning while I was going to catch the bus
to the UW from Evergreen Point (Medina area) I saw a
flock of approximately 25 Band-tailed Pigeon and a
flock of about 50 Cedar Waxwings in the area of the
bus stop there on 520. Nice start to the morning.
