That would be a wonderful idea Joe, except that the dog owners don't pay any attention to on leash or off leash areas themselves. They act like their damn dogs are entitled to run wherever the hell they feel. Now, I haven't gotten in anyone's face in a couple of years about it, but let's face it: dog owners think that everyone loves dogs. I for one don't. Had I been in a worse mood today, I could have bitched out at least 3 different people today at the Montlake Fill. I was in a quite spot near the fenced area behind the CUH, when here comes some mutt bounding up. Good-bye birds! The girl was nice and immediately leashed her dog, but it would have been so much nicer is this...person...had taken her damn mutt someplace that allows them off leash, rather than bring it to a park where they are not supposed to be off leash.

And I will also say that dog owners are some of the rudest, nastiest, most off-color speaking people I have had the misfortune to meet. Like the time I was in Mt. Rainier Natioanl Park (no dogs allowed anywhere outside of the parking lot area). I am 3 miles into the park and crossing a suspension bridge when a big black lab comes up the trail. No leash. The people that owned the dog were a good 100 yards behind their cur, and when we pointed out, nice as we could, that dogs were not allowed, suddenly, WE were the problem, not them. It's not that they couldn't read the sign, they just made sure they didn't see it, so they could do their own thing, regardless of laws. Dog owners like that suck, and I try very hard not to lump all dog owners with them, but it can be difficult. For those of you who love your mutts, please help the rest of us out and keep them leashed unless in a specific unleashed area. I won't go near the unleashed areas if you won't unleash your mutt near me. !
Deal?

Interestingly enough, some people are the same way with their kids when they're in public places. We live in an age when some folks operate with an almost-defensive sense of entitlement to bad behavior. I guess the considerate among us might be well-advised to stay out of "off leash areas," no matter the species.
