My dentist had an interesting bird tale for me today.

He has a small koi pond, and he reported once seeing a Mallard land there,
hop into the pond, somehow manage to catch baby koi.

Specifically, what he reported was that the Mallard managed to flip the baby
koi out of the water onto the grass. Later, the Mallard came up and ate
them off the grass. He also mentioned that the babies seldom thrive, so
they may not have been 100%.

I've never heard anything like that. Also, the BNA account does not seem to
mention fish as part of the Mallard diet (though it does mention aquatic
invertebrates).

Weird.
