On 2 Oct a SCARLET TANAGER was a one-day wonder at Bassett Park, Washtucna,
Adams Co WA according to Mike and MerryLynn Denny. Washtucna is along WA 260
just south of WA 26. You can sniff out the park in the center of this small
town. WA DeLorme 55, BC-6.

A third-year LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen 2 Oct on a small dock near
the resort at the north end of Blue Lake, Grant Co WA according to Doug
Schonewald. Blue Lake is along WA 17 about 8 miles southwest of US 2 and
Banks Lake. WA DeLorme 85, D-5.

On 2 Oct Bob Flores found an immature ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD in Othello, Grant
Co WA at the corner of 9th and Spruce Street.

A COMMON GRACKLE is residing in Spokane, WA according to Ron Dexter. The
bird is hanging out with starlings one building east of Lowe's on Sprague
Avenue.

A first winter SURF SCOTER was spotted by Lisa Hardy at Page Ponds near
Cataldo, ID on 7 Oct.

At Mann Lake, Nez Perce Co ID, just east of Lewiston.... On 7 Oct, an
EURASIAN WIGEON. On 8 Oct, 68 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, a GREAT EGRET,
and an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER. On 9 an adult female SURF SCOTER and a
BONAPARTE'S GULL. Thanks to Norma Trefry, Carla Joyal, Terry Gray, and
Charles Swift. From the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12 south into town,
cross the Clearwater River on Memorial Bridge and immediately take the first
left (east) toward East Lewiston. Turn left (east) onto East Main Street and
go about a half mile to the flashing yellow lights. Turn right (south) onto
Lapwai (a.k.a. Lindsay Creek) Road. When the road forks stay right on
Lindsay Creek Road (Nez Perce County Road 460) and follow it about 5 miles
to its terminus at Grelle Avenue. Turn left (east) onto Grelle Avenue and
just past the sharp right curve, turn left (east) onto East Powers Avenue
(a.k.a. Lapwai Road). Continue straight (east) past the grain towers to the

Also in Lewiston, on 9 Oct, an EURASIAN WIGEON at the West Pond along the
levee. Terry and Christine Gray. To get there from the north side of
Lewiston, take US 12 across the river and stay in the right lane past the
first traffic light. At the second light (18th Street), turn right and go
about 1 mile to the big pond, right before the railroad bridge over the
river.

At the Walla Walla River delta in western Walla Walla Co WA and nearby
locations, Mike and MerryLynn Denny report.... On 6 Oct, a PACIFIC LOON, 3
GREAT EGRETS, 2 COMMON TERNS, 1 DUNLIN, and 1 sub-adult SABINE'S GULL. On 9
Oct, 1 STILT SANDPIPER, 1 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, a GREAT EGRET, and 3 adult
GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS. The delta can be accessed 0.1 mile north of Madame
Dorian Park. There's a pull-out along US 12 at milepost 306.9 and a path to
the delta. WA DeLorme 40, D-1. Nearby ON 9 Oct at the Dodd Iowa Beef ponds
were 38 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER. Dodd-Iowa Beef
Road and ponds, which are at US 12 milepost 301.5 about 5.5 miles north of
the jct of US 12 and US 730. Follow Dodd-Iowa east about 0.5 miles past the
slaughter house, the road goes down a little hill and then back up. At the
top, turn right onto a gravel road that used to be a railroad grade. Follow
it to settling ponds. WA DeLorme 40, CD-1.

Several GREAT EGRETS are residing in Spokane Co WA. Michael Woodruff reports
one in Latah Creek along the Valley-Chapel Road accessed from the Palouse
Highway. WA DeLorme 89, D-6 right at the bottom of the page. Fran Haywood
reports 3 GREAT EGRETS were still on North Silver Lake as of 2 Oct. Silver
Lake is east of the town of Medical Lake, north of I-90. WA DeLorme 88, D-3.

At Philleo Lake west of Spangle, Spokane Co WA....30 Sep, AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVER; 8 Oct, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS according to
Michael and Roger Woodruff. On 1 Oct Gina Sheridan reports at least 2
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and 1 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER.F rom US 195, head west
at the Spangle jct, immediately right onto Jenness Road. After about 2
miles, veer left toward the lake. WA DeLorme 73, A-5.

BLUE JAYS were seen in Moscow, Latah Co ID. I saw one on 28 Sep and 2 Oct
along Eid Road on Paradise Ridge, and Charles Swift reports one in the
University of Idaho Arboretum south of campus and next to the golf course on
8 Oct. Also at the arboretum on 6 Oct was a single LONG-EARED OWL according
to Charles and Chris Caudill.

Good sparrows popped up this past week.... Bob Flores, Mark Hustin, and Tom
Munson found 2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS at Bassett Park in Washtucna, Adams
Co WA on 3 Oct (see above for directions). On 2 Oct Doug Schonewald found a
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at Sun Lakes State Park, Grant Co, WA. The park is 7
miles southwest of Coulee City. WA DeLorme 85, D-5. Lisa Hardy reports an
adult WHITE-THROATED SPARROW along the North Fork Coeur d'Alene River,
Shoshone Co ID on 8 Oct.

On 2 Oct a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER was at Potholes State Park according
to Doug Schonewald. Nearby that same day, at Soap Lake, Doug found a single
SANDERLING and a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER. Soap Lake is near the town of Soap
Lake, Grant Co, and is north-northeast of Moses Lake. WA DeLorme 68-69, A
right on the crease.

On 25 Sep, Gina Sheridan saw a GREAT EGRET flying over the southeastern
section of Calispell Lake, Pend Oreille Co WA.

On 28 Sep at the sewage ponds at Spangle, Spokane Co WA was a BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER and 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS according to Michael Woodruff.

A GREAT EGRET was at Lane Marsh, Kootenai Co ID on 28 Sep according to Lisa
Hardy. Lane Marsh is along ID 3 at milepost 111 between St Maries and Rose
