Subject: [Tweeters] Marymoor Park Report (Redmond, King Co., WA) 2005-10-12

Tweets - what a quiet day at Marymoor! Man - there weren't nothin' there.

Well, that's not quite true, but I think the dead air and dropping barometer
may have contributed to the quietness of the day. MOST of the time, there
really wasn't anything to see or hear.

Highlights:

Northern Shoveler First of Fall, flyby, 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk Great look at an adult near Dog Central
Barn Owl Matt had one early near the East Meadow
Townsend's Warbler 2+ near maintenance barns
SWAMP SPARROW Rowing Club, near natural pond

It was down to just Matt Bartels and me when we saw the SWAMP SPARROW. Boy
are they ever unmistakable, with their BLUE-gray heads and RED wings! This
one popped up next to a LINCOLN'S SPARROW and a FOX SPARROW at the west end
of the small, natural "pond" on the south side of the path between the large
weeping willow and the boathouse. It gave us great looks for less than a
minute, then disappeared into the base of the willow. This is our 2nd SWSP
sighting for 2005 - we had one near the weir in February. It's only our 3rd
ever sighting at the park, though.

But that's about it for highlights. We had to scrounge just to find
starlings. Shoveler and Mallard were our only ducks, we never *saw*
goldfinches, though we heard them on numerous occasions, we had no waxwings
or Purple Finch, which are usually pretty common this time of year...
Mostly just AMERICAN ROBINS and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBERS and SONG SPARROWS.

For the day, a measly 48 species (first week since February with less than
50)
