Dear Tweeters,

One time a Northern Pygmy Owl hammered a big fat
Spotted Towhee at my feeder up in Concrete. The towhee
had been battening on sunflower seeds all winter. In a
series of low, struggling flights, the owl made off
with the towhee, the latter screaming most piteously
all the while. I could not believe the lifting power
of that owl, flying five to six meters at a time, only
twenty or thirty centimeters off the ground, with a
burthen much heavier than he, clutched in his wee
talons. It all reminded me of one of those big, green,
ugly military transports, taking off with a load of
ironmongery for some war or other.
