Hi tweets-

Sam Woods (sam.woods at hotmail.com) and I ventured north of Seattle today
in search of a few target birds. At the Skagit Game Farm, we
successfully found the Northern Waterthrush. Tho' we had to work for
this life bird for Sam, it eventually graced us with nice views at
bridge #2,not at the spot others have reported on Tweeters. At the Port
Susan Nature Conservancy spot on Boe Road, we found several Sharp-tailed
Sandpipers (but not the Ruff that was reported to us by two fellow
birders on their way out - thank you to whomever you were for alerting
us to the possibility of another life bird). Tho' this was a quest for
the above target birds, we were very pleased by the end of the day to
have seen 7 birds of prey, among all other birds seen/heard during the
day: Bald eagle, Peregrin falcon, Red-tailed hawk, Northern Harrier,
Merlin (eating prey in flight), Great Horned owl, and Rough-legged hawk.
The first of the season for us, the Rough-legged was one of those
be-still-my-heart kinda experiences as it kited in eerie light. Of
course, we were also moved by the Snow geese swarming over head, having
escaped nearby hunters. We had several firsts today that included life
birds and first of the season sightings of special birds.

If anyone wants specifics about these birds or their whereabouts, please
contact either of us off line.
