I missed the discussion on wearing orange while birding in hunting areas due to being away from home. Here's my two bits worth.

I taught Hunter Safety for several years and the reason for wearing orange is so that some hunter won't think that the moving brown, black or whatever that he sees isn't something shootable. If you don't want to become a statistic wear orange in hunting areas. Unfortunately not all hunters as with most things are the sharpest pencils in the box.

The comment on people killed every year by falling bullets is fairly bogus. Even in Baghdad and other places where people are shooting into the air in large numbers injuries from falling bullets seldom happen.
