Hi Tweeters,

When I got to the McNary NWR headdquarters south of Pasco this morning at
8:30, six pairs of binos were raised, pointed at the Prothonotary Warbler
Mike Denny found there yesterday. Within 15 seconds I was looking at a new
bird on my state list, #390!

For the next two hours I tried to get photos. The six best are in the new
photos folder on my website.

The longer I take photos, the more I admire the pros who get such
incredible photos for calendars, books, etc. It takes an incredible amount
of patience and timing to get great photos. It also takes a very
cooperative bird. The Prothonotary Warbler was continually moving through
the tree, except when it was resting, hidden low in the back of the
tree. It would have been nice if it would have rested on a sunlit branch
in plain view. Perhaps someone will have that luck tomorrow.

I left McNary at about 10:30 and headed for the Tyson ponds. They were
pretty dead. The Walla Walla Delta had a good number of gulls including
Bonaparte's, Ring-billed and California. There were dowitchers, Dunlin,
six Black-bellied Plovers and a few peeps for shorebirds.

I stopped back at McNary at 12:30. Two people were standing watch for the
warbler but hadn't seen it in the half hour they had been there. I stayed
until 1:45 and didn't see it again.
