RARE BIRD ALERT for a ROCK WREN and a SAY'S PHOEBE


Sightings for Saturday, October 22

The Iona Island South Jetty in Richmond again produced the ROCK
WREN at various locations on the jetty throughout the day. Also present
were a LAPLAND LONGSPUR near the tip, and a SNOW BUNTING
1.5 km from the base of the jetty.

Boundary Bay sightings included a SAY'S PHOEBE at the BC Hydro
Installation west of the foot of 72nd Street, and to the east, a BAR-
TAILED GODWIT, 2 MARBLED GODWITS, and 2 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS
near 104th Street

An AMERICAN DIPPER was present at the Hastings Park Sanctuary at the
PNE in Vancouver, and is believed to be the first record at this location.

A female EVENING GROSBEAK was present at the feeder on River Road in
Delta that last year hosted the Western Scrub Jay.


Sightings for Friday, October 21

A GLAUCOUS GULL was reported from north of Siwash Rock at Stanley
Park in Vancouver.

A BLUE JAY is present on Bowen Island. Please contact Donna at 604-
947-9752 for directions for this bird that has been present since
October 18th.

The Iona South Jetty had a ROCK WREN near the tip, 3 adult light-
phase PARASITIC JAEGERS, and a SNOW BUNTING.

Colony Farm in Coquitlam produced 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, 1 AMERICAN
BITTERN, and 1 AMERICAN KESTREL.

1 male EURASIAN WIGEON was observed at Blackie Spit in Surrey.

Boundary Bay sightings included 1 BAR-TAILED GODWIT, 2 MARBLED
GODWITS, 1 RUDDY TURNSTONE, 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS and 18
HORNED LARKS


Sightings for Thursday, October 20

The OUT OF TOWN RARE BIRD ALERT continues for a NORTHERN
WHEATEAR at French Creek at Columbia Beach north of Parksville. For
directions and updates contact the Victoria Rare Bird Alert at

Sightings for Tuesday, October 18

A male TOWNSEND'S WARBLER is visiting a suet feeder in Richmond.

2 WILLETS were observed at the base of the White Rock Pier.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was present at Serpentine Fen in Surrey.

A very late ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW was among the sightings at the
Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, which also included 1 `blue morph' SNOW
GOOSE, 7 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, and 4 CACKLING GEESE.

1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was present at Colony Farm in Coquitlam.

At Third Beach in Vancouver's Stanley Park, 17 RED-NECKED GREBES
were offshore as well as about one thousand SURF SCOTERS.


Sightings for Saturday, October 15

2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were present at the end of the Iona Island
South Jetty in Richmond, as well as 2 PARASITIC JAEGERS off the tip.
