Today I saw the meadowlark previously mentioned here on Tweeters. It was eating delicious Hawthorne berries until I came and disturbed it, and took off. It did not like me observing it.

I have several favorite bus/birdwatching trips...and they do save lots of money. My ultimate favorite is taking one of the buses, the 44, to the Ballard Locks, looking at birds and fish and then walking up to Discovery Park and around West point and then up to historic Fort Lawton. Then either walk back to the locks or take the 24 back to Seattle. Off course this is when I have a whole day off, but I can really focus on the birds. If there is a low tide I go wading.

I also like to do Pt. Defiance by bus, taking the 11 from Downtown Tacoma and getting off at the Ferry to Vashon, the route's last stop.

The Montlake Fill is excellent because there are so many buses going to the UW....throw in the Arboretum as well! If you take the 550 from Seattle to Bellevue get off at the South Bellevue Park and Ride, and you are at the Mercer Slough also a paved bike trail. This place has the added attraction of blueberries when in season.

I will admit that I enjoy long hikes and am looking for big places.
