Hello Tweeters,
With reports of high numbers of Snipe and a Yellow Shafted Flicker at JBP
this week I stopped by there on Friday afternoon. I was especially hoping
to see the Flicker. No Flicker and only 2 Snipe. I did see or hear 31
species. It was so blustery that I think all the little birds were
hunkered down to ride out the weather. The HIGHLIGHT of my afternoon was
a MOURNING DOVE. I was coming out of the middle board walk when I saw
something fly into the big weeping willow right where the board walk
begins. I was looking up into the bright sky and at the birds underside.
I could tell it was a pigeon but I didn't know if it was a band tail or a
mourning dove so I worked myself around and into the lawn so I was
looking at him from the side but I was still uncertain, then he flew off
in the direction of the 1st board walk. as he flew I could see his tail
very well, long and tapered, brown in the middle with dark vertical
stripes and white tips. NOT Bands of gray. I followed him but I had
misjudged which tree he landed in so I thought I was sneaking up on a
tree 50 feet in front of me when he flushed from a tree to my right and
flew off toward the lake.
I hope he sticks around, maybe it's the same one Michael saw at Marymoor
a couple of weeks ago. I had gone looking for him and come up empty so I
was very happy to see this one.
