Hi, all:

One more note on bears and feeders. When I lived in Reardan I had a young
black bear start visiting my feeders. I also kept a large metal trash can in the
side yard to hold the sunflower seeds. It had a heavy-duty bungee cord on it
to keep the raccoons from taking the lid off. After losing five or six feeders
I started bringing the feeders inside at night - a real pain! The bear then
went after the trash/seed can but couldn't quite get the bungee cord to come
off. It then stomped on the side of the trash can and flattened it - then
feasted on sunflower seeds. About the third night I tried firing a shot into the
ground (big gun-lots of noise), which chased the bear up a tree, so then I roared
at it (I have a VERY loud voice) and it flew down the tree and down the
valley. However, it was back 2 nights later. There was also an apple tree in my
yard so even though the feeders weren't out anymore it kept coming back every
night for more apples. That kept up for about a week and a half but I heard the
local farmers were after the bear and after that I never saw the bear again.
I'd like to think it was relocated but that's probably wishful thinking! It was
actually kind of neat having the bear come by for it's nightly visit.
