Hi Tweeters,

Connie and Marys posts are the kind I really enjoy,
along with the adventures with bird/wildlife ones. I
was in many of the E Wa hotspots the past couple of
days. I'm not technologically hooked up yet when I am
not at home/work so was totally unaware of some of the
rarities that were in some of those places.

The best sighting for me besides the Stilt Sandpiper
at Perch Point (a life bird) on Saturday was a mammal,
my first moose in Wa state at Sprague Lake at the
resort, snoozing on the beach across the way.

My magical sighting yesterday was an immature
Townsend's Warbler at Palouse Falls that came right up
to the branch right by my face and checked me out. My
favorite warbler right where I could almost touch. I
had to restrain my impulse to reach out towards it. I
wasn't pishing or in any way trying to attract
him/her.
This magical bird moment just happened.

The other interesting bird behavior yesterday was to
watch the Red-wing Blackbirds at my return trip to
Perch Point deliberately harass the shorebirds. I
have not witnessed this before but know the blackbirds
are certainly capable of intense aggression during
nesting season. It was a flock of about 8 males
swooping down at the shorebirds especially the
Red-necked Phalaropes.

It was also nice to meet some new fellow birders, John
from Seattle at Perch Point Sat., Gina Sheridan and
Bart Whelan in Washtuchna. Ollie and Grace Oliver on
my second trip to Perch Point yesterday, nice to run
into you again.
