This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for September

On August 29, Bateman Island had hints of the coming season. Nancy
LaFramboise found Yellow-rumped Warblers were back as well as WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROWS. In addition, there were 5 CHIPPING SPARROWS and 1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW.

On September 1, Dennis Rockwell found a Two Rivers County Park first when
he saw a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT in the willows near the playground.

On the First Saturday Bateman Island Walk on September 3rd there was a good
variety of birds. Highlights were 3 grebe species including 2 RED-NECKED
GREBES, an Eared Grebe, and the usual Pied-billed. Among the many swallows
was 1 VAUX'S SWIFT.

Bob Woodley had a variety of sightings on September 5. At the Yakima Delta
he saw several of both yellowlegs, 58 Killdeer, 2 WILSON'S SNIPE, 38
Western Sandpipers, 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, 1 COMMON TERN, 1
Glaucous-winged Gull and 3 Great Egrets. At Groves Park in Richland he
found several WARBLING VIREOS.

Also on the 5th, Bill and Nancy LaFramboise observed 5 DARK-EYED JUNCOS at
Horn Rapids County Park.

Today, September 6, Paula Clark, Nancy LaFramboise and Bob Woodley enjoyed
a PEREGRINE FALCON perched on a snag in the Yakima Delta.

While the return of White-crowns and juncos is not uncommon, it should
remind you to restock your bird seed. LCBAS's Annual Seed Sale will have
LIVE birds this year! Come and see some of the birds from Blue Mountain
Wildlife Rehabilitators at Columbia Grain & Feed at 20th and Lewis Streets
in Pasco on October 8 from 9-2. A PEREGRINE FALCON and a BARN OWL will be
there and maybe more. LCBAS will have displays and be ready to answer
questions about backyard bird feeding or the birds in our area. Your
purchase of bird feeding supplies will count toward the donation to be made
by Columbia Grain & Feed to LCBAS.
