I don't have too much experience with digiscoping but recently I have seen photos of Petri Koivisto taken with Swarowski scope, Nikon Coolpix 4500 and I was surprised what results this combination can bring. I believe that it's picture quality rivals the one achieved by 13grands professional rigs. I have heard that this specific model of Nikon has excellent macro and I guess the swivel LCD monitor is important as well. Nikon Coolpix 4500 might be discontinued but used ones go on Ebay for about 200-300 bucks. Other than that the new Canon S2 IS ( with image stabilizer ) is another one that I would give a try if I had extra $ 500.- ( to support Walmart ) You can also make about 15 minutes of solid quality video with that one and it too has swivel lcd monitor.
