At noon Friday I noticed a pileated woodpecker on a large cottonwood in
our backyard. It moved to our apple tree and carefully hopped out to
the end of a long, slender branch. There it bounced and bobbed, feeding
on a bright red apple for 5 - 10 minutes. A striking, colorful
picture. Bird magic.
