Subject: [Tweeters] backyard bird guide -- for what it's worth

Some years ago I saw a comment, a suggestion, for a
beginning guide book for "beginners". The writer suggested that beginners
look first at color and then size, these are characteristics that they
recognize. He suggested that birds be grouped first by color, "Hey it's
yellow," and so they look under "Yellow birds" and then by size, "It's
medium sized like a robin." Cross checking may be difficult; colors:
yellow, white, black, brown, mixed, - size: little. small, medium, large -
etc. and then on to what its name may be. And to precise naming.
There it is for what it's worth - I thought the suggestion
interesting.
