After the rain let up Robert Reidl and myself headed over to the Mont
Lake Fill for a very birdy afternoon. At treed area just off of the
parking lot we had numerous warblers, Yellow, Yellow-Rumped,
Orange-crowned, Wilson's and a Nashville.
From there we headed to behind the green houses, there were many
Savannah sparrows and surprise, a Vesper's sparrow. We worked our way
over to the main pond and were joined by another birder,
Jeff whom reported seeing his first fall Golden-Crowned Sparrows. The
three of us saw some dandy shorebirds; Least Sandpipers, Killdeer,
Pectoral Sandpipers (2), a Solitary Sandpiper and a couple of Dowitchers
(we guessed long-billed due to lack of barring on the flanks, but they
were very quite so we didn't want to say for sure). Also in our "not
sure" category was an Empidonax that we thought might be a Pacific-slope
as it had a bold elliptical eyering, but it too gave us no sounds to go by.
