Hi Tweeters,

This morning I saw a Western Grebe at Portage Bay by
the yacht club. At lunch I saw two in closer and
didn't even have Clark's Grebe on the brain until I
came back in to the office to show my coworkers how
pretty a Western Grebe is. I noted in my notes one of
the bird's bill was yellow and the dark feathers over
the back were lighter. I looked in the Sibley's and
went "Doh!" wait a minute. The yellow billed grebe
was calling constantly even when it was tucked up and
acted like it was a juvenile, facing the other grebe
head down somewhat horizontally calling.

At lunch they were between the fish hatchery pond and
the yacht club near the entrance to the Montlake cut.

Parking is spendy at the UW, best bet is to try and
find street parking on 15th near the new construction,
or on Boat Street. Then walk back towards the fish
pond. Called the Salmon Homing Pond on the southwest
campus map (K19) on the UW homepage. Search for maps
on the website.

Pretty cool, also had my first ever Savanah Sparrow
visit my little area. Not expected with no real
habitat for them. Surely passing through.
