I went out to the River "S" Unit of the Ridgefield N.W.R. after
work Monday evening in search of the BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER found there
on Sunday by Scott Murray. When I arrived a little after 5 P.M. Scott
Carpenter was there and had the bird in his scope near the Southwest
corner of Rest Lake. It moved in and out of view as it wandered around
the grassy areas o the mudflats.
Other birds present included AMERICAN BITTERN and about two dozen
SANDHILL CRANES. I only spent a short time at the refuge admiring the
sandpiper and talking to Scott before heading home.
