Birds are definitely moving to and through the area. On September 7 and 8,
Scott Dietert noted a large increase in the number of American Goldfinches
in his North Richland yard. White-crowned Sparrows have returned and
although Dark-eyed Juncos have been seen locally, they have yet to find
some feeders. On September 12, Margaret Greger reported 2 Red-breasted
Nuthatches in her Richland yard.

On September 8, Dennis Rockwell and Nancy LaFramboise were treated to a
BLACKPOLL WARBLER in Two Rivers County Park in Kennewick. This bird may
actually be annual in small numbers but it may frequently be overlooked in
numbers of Yellow-rumped Warblers. The following day, Bill and Nancy
LaFramboise were able to briefly relocate the Blackpoll Warbler but the
wind made viewing difficult. 3 VAUX'S SWIFTS were also seen at Two Rivers
Park on the 8th.

It's always good to scan flocks of birds for something different. Bill
LaFramboise noted a juvenile GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW among White-crowns in
his Richland yard on September 9.

Bateman Island continues to have a few notable migrants. On September 12,
Nancy LaFramboise noted 6 COMMON TERNS and a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE there. A
few migrant warblers were among many Yellow-rumps.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number, date,
and sightings after the tone. Thank you.
