Tweets,
A good diversity of birds, many active and vocal, were again present around
Tenino Monday. Most memorable was being "surrounded" by 5 woodpecker species
at one location on Vantine Rd for ~20 minutes:
- Pileated (2, surprisingly lingered the whole time)
- Downy (2, one particularly agitated & vocal)
- Hairy (1-2, one pecking very loudly)
- Red-br Sapsucker (2-4, one drumming)
- Flicker (up to 6)
Other interesting sightings:
- Hammond's Flyctr (1, perhaps 2, singing in full voice 1-1/2 hours apart
for a minute or two)
- Purple Martin (1)
- Osprey (1 flyover)
- Vaux's Swift (8, and 6 in perhaps a second group)
- Swainson's Thrush (8, all vocal, 1 in full voice)
- Hermit Thrush (3-4, high count for fall)
- Cassin's Vireo (1 singing)
- 6 warblers
- 8 sparrows (incl junco & towhee)
59 species, 77 for week 9/6-12 (a previously reported count was wrong/too
high). It's great fun catching the fall migration!
Good birding!
