Tweets - I'm not sure why only six people showed up this morning. I was
pretty sure we'd have a great day, and I was right. There was a touch of
fog early, but that cleared fast into a mostly sunny day. Around 10:30, the
wind picked up considerably, which wasn't so good. But the birding was
great early on, and pretty good the rest of the day.

The biggie was a PECTORAL SANDPIPER on the grass soccer fields with Killdeer
(same locations as the Buff-breasted two weeks ago) first noted just before
7:00 a.m. This was a juvenile bird, and was seen well. Don't know if it
lingered, as there was a guy out there striping the soccer fields and the
killdeers seemed to have dispersed by the time we left.

Highlights:

Green Heron At least 2, 1 adult, 1 juvenile
Northern Harrier 1 circling high up. Later 1 at boardwalk.
Cooper's Hawk 2 sightings, both juvies I think
MERLIN Not seen well, quick flyby
Pileated Woodpecker One on ridge west of Marymoor
Ruby-crowned Kinglet First of fall, 1 over boardwalk
AMERICAN PIPIT 5 while we were scoping the PESA
Fox Sparrow 1 - First of fall?
LAPLAND LONGSPUR 2 in Dog Meadow
Bl.-headed Grosbeak 1- Getting kind of late.

Near the dog area portapotties we had a great flock of chickadees, sparrows,
warblers, robins, waxwings, wrens, etc., that contained lots of
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, several ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, a YELLOW WARBLER or
two, and some COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, as well as the FOX SPARROW and a
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW.

For the morning, 63 species. The harrier, sandpiper, pipit, and longspur
were all new for the year, bringing the year total to 138 if I'm counting
right.

The Pectoral Sandpiper is our 5th new bird for the park list for 2005,
bringing the park list to 182 species.
