After just a single Sandhill Crane last week, I was pleased to hear a fairly constant reminder that it is that time of year. Over a 2-3 hour period this afternoon cranes were announcing their arrival every 5-15 minutes. Mostly groups of 3-10 birds, though one flock of nearly 100. The south end of Columbia NWR near Highway 26 had most of the activity, with about 350 total that I saw.
