Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report

On September 9 a BROAD-WINGED HAWK was at Baskett Slough NWR.

The first wave of SANDHILL CRANES are now on Sauvie Island and Ridgefield
NWR. A heavy movement of TURKEY VULTURES passed over the Willamette Valley
during the week. Large mixed flocks of VIOLET-GREEN and BARN SWALLOWS are
now being reported. Thousands of BARN SWALLOWS are now being seen south of
Dayton as they gather at their evening roost in the corn fields. There was a
coastal movement of WESTERN KINGBIRDS during the week.

The offshore boat trip out of Coos Bay September 10 recorded a LAYSAN
ALBATROSS, three SKUAS, and two SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS in addition to the
more regular species. An AMERICAN and a PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER and two
LAPLAND LONGSPURS were on the North Spit of Coos Bay during the week.

A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER is now at Ridgefield NWR. On September 10 an ACORN
WOODPECKER was in Vancouver. Several thousand VAUX?S SWIFTS are now roosting
in the Chapman School chimney in Northwest Portland. On September 12 an
EASTERN KINGBIRD was near Sherwood. There are now two MAGPIES in East Salem.
On September 14 a SAY?S PHOEBE was near Grand Ronde. A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was
seen September 9 along Farmer Road east of Baskett Slough NWR.

On September 14 two CLARK?S GREBES, four WESTERN GREBES, and two HORNED
GREBES were on Timothy Lake south of Mt. Hood. A BROWN PELICAN was seen
September 7 on Diamond Lake, north of Crater Lake. An ACORN WOODPECKER was
reported during the week near Camp Sherman. On September 14 a STILT
SANDPIPER and a SABINE?S GULL were at the Prineville Sewage Ponds.
