Subject: [Tweeters] v. thrush, rats & trash

Heard Varied Thrush this morning in the yard. Yipes! I still haven't
cleaned out the trash under their favorite trees on Greenwood Ave. So
here's a practical question: What trash can I clean out to discourage
the rats without discouraging the birds? (I also have a Steller's Jay
with a damaged wing that lives there.) All the food containers that
look dangerous to birds can go, I'm sure, but what about things like the
old sweatshirt that kids must have thrown in there? I think that if
it's immaculate the birds won't like it as well. (Of course, new trash
will accumulate, but I'd like to keep these early comers.)

OK, thanks for the help. (Wow! I wish I could send their conversations
about the car alarm that just went off a few minutes ago!)
