Four new species for my little birding area in one
week! Two of them Grebes. Monday Western Grebes, and
today watched a bird fly in that was gray and white.
Not a duck. Eventually it swam in closer so I could
identify it as a Horned Grebe. (Love to see grebes
fly, more common than pigs flying but not by much...)
Other two species Turkey Vulture and Savannah Sparrow.
Lots of returning species this week. Last week was
my first returning duck and of all the luck it was
quite difficult to identify. I am "pretty sure" it
was a female Blue-winged Teal. Main field mark were
drab brown overall, black bill, with enough paleness
behind the bill to fit the description. I only saw it
the one time.

The ducks are starting to display. The most
interesting behavior lately has been the Anna's
Hummingbirds. In groups of 3, possibly 4. Multiple
males singing in the same area at the same time. A
lot of chattering and chasing too. Maybe young males
are trying to find a territory?
