One sign that the season has changed was extra activity in our West Seattle backyard this morning. In addition to the flickers, Downy Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadees, and (sigh) House Sparrows, for around ten minutes we had three Orange-crowned Warblers and a Hermit Thrush. The latter might stay around for the winter, but the Orange-crowneds are probably headed for SE California or Baja.
