Hi Tweeters:
On Thursday, September 15, my wife and I were birding along the beach at Ocean Shores. Near the beach access at Ocean Lake Way, we found among a large group of birds containing a couple of Red knots, about fifty dowitchers and the same number of Western sandpipers, and probably at least 200 Sanderlings, one Sanderling that, apart from its black bill, legs, and dark eye, was pure white. After many years of observing shorebirds, this is my first experience with anything approaching an albino. I hope that this bird will survive predation in that it stuck out like the proverbial sore thumb.
