Several years ago a neighbor called to report one heron attacking
another at the edge of a pond. Two birds, presumably these same
two, had been sharing the area for some time. In the end one
heron killed the other. Age and sex of birds unknown.

I don't know much about herons. Maybe attacks on fellow herons are
common.
Without other evidence, however, my first inclination would be to
note it as an
interesting observation, but consider it abnormal and maladaptive
unless future
observations show that it is more common than we know.
