Hi Nancy (and anyone else who's interested),

I have had excellent luck hand-feeding chickadees, particularly in the
winter when the chickadees hang out in the serviceberry bushes below our
house. I've had both Black-capped and Mountain Chickadees, as well as Pygmy
and Red-breasted Nuthatches and Pine Siskins. I've had the best luck by
setting up a small feeder away from the others for a while, then taking it
down and holding my hand in the same spot when the birds are near. They are
so tame in the first place that they really don't need much convincing to
come to the hand!
