September 18, 11:42 AM - This is Scott Atkinson (206 406 2306).
Wanted to report from today. This morning at the Skagit Wildlife
Management Area main access off Wylie Road. Highlight at 9:15 was a
LEAST FLYCATCHER right along the main entrance road. There's an
elderberry patch fairly close to the boat launch parking area but
it's really more in between the two parking lots. The bird was very
cooperative, responding to pishing. It was with a PACIFIC SLOPE
FLYCATCHER. There were large numbers of migrants generally along the
loop trail. Watch out for the pheasant hunters. There's large numbers
of GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, PURPLE FINCHES.
Also had three LAPLAND LONGSPURS overfly the dikes at one point.
Along Wylie Road had a group of six soaring TURKEY VULTURES later in
the morning. Then over at nearby Jensen access ran into the Aslanians
and Bob Kuntz. Apparently one of them had six GOLDEN PLOVERS on the
farm fields near Jensen. We had a single PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER while
I was there. Other birds in the area. We had a late CLIFF SWALLOW
along with large numbers of VIOLET-GREEN and BARN along Maupin Road.
