A type of wild blueberry or huckleberry is all over Pt. Defiance park, covered with blue or black berries. They taste something like a blueberry but much smaller in size. I haven't looked it up yet. Can anybody tell me about it? I am not familiar with it here in the north end.

The birds were going crazy over them. Robins, Cedar Waxwings, Band-tailed Pigeons, Song Sparrows and some fall migrants. I had close up views of Fox Sparrows enjoying these berries. Hermit Thrushes acted wild around them, one almost flew into my face. The most amusing bird I saw were the Spotted Towhees, they made funny versions of their calls as they ate. Please forgive the anthropomorphism but it sounded like their way of saying "Yum!" I didn't recognize what bird it was right away.

There wasn't much activity over the water today, I saw one Marbled Murrelet and possibly a Pelagic Cormorant but didn't get a good view.
