Hello Ken,

I (conveniently) can't relocate that photo of the mystery sparrow. But I guess you're right! The pattern looks like the juvenile Grasshopper Sparrow in Sibley's. My only encounter with the Grasshopper Sparrow was in SE Arizona ages ago. I should refrain from "shooting from the hip."
